Elspeth Crawford is an independent AI governance and legal technology consultant based in the UK.

She holds a degree in Philosophy, a Juris Doctor from the University of Sydney and is admitted to legal practice in Australia. She also holds a Master of Laws, specialising in ICT law from the University of Oslo. It was there, in the summer of 2023 that her lifelong, unquenchable curiosity led her to start poring over a copy of a proposal from the EU Commission to regulate something called artificial intelligence (aka the EU AI Act).

As the content of this regulatory global first was still being finalised and long before most people had heard of it, Elspeth pored over the intricacies of the draft regulation with a fine tooth comb.

She has designed and delivered AI assurance services for clients, and founded and led an AI governance software startup in the Nordics.

Elspeth’s knowledge bridges the gaps between the law and emerging technology. For the last 3 years she has focused specifically on the legal and governance issues that arise in the context of the development and deployment of artificial intelligence models and systems.

She blends this knowledge with a pragmatic mindset to deliver two bespoke services.
